At the beginning of October 2021, Vanessa and her boyfriend John took the opportunity to explore northern Italy - with no less a vehicle than the HYMER B-Class ModernComfort I 550 WhiteLine. Both absolutely inexperienced when it comes to camper life and camping, but open and very excited about new things. And right away for the first trip with luxury on four wheels. Your journey to the south starts in Stuttgart and takes you first to the Dolomites at the Pragser Wildsee.
The trip starts with bad weather and a few days of rain showers. Luckily, they didn't book the pitches in advance - which definitely wouldn't be a good idea in the summer - and also allowed for some buffer for the whole trip. So, the two of them stay two days longer and use the time for planning and to learn intensively with the vehicle. At night, when the temperature is around 0 °C, the gas heating - an absolute must-have when the temperatures are low - works reliably at all times. It is standard in the HYMER, but for Vanessa and John it feels like real luxury on four wheels. On the third day, the Lago di Braies shows its beautiful side with the iconic boats.
The B-MC I climbs the altitude meters almost effortlessly. On a pitch-dark night, you have no idea how gigantic the mountain panorama is all around you, and when you wake up you quickly forget breakfast while exploring the Three Peaks. The roads are still free at the start, but when you climb the mountains there is sometimes a lot of snow on the hiking trails - real fun in white sneakers.
Nature is absolutely fabulous and incredibly beautiful as far as the eye can see. A tip, since little or no visit is the Cadini di Misurina, which really brings joy for drone pilots (in Italy the laws are very simple and clear). Since there is a toll starting from 7 p.m. until 7 p.m. the next day and you have to pay for any 24h started it is advisable to continue in the early evening.
One of the absolute highlights is the trip to the Seceda. With the gondola you reach a beautiful mountain, which is hundreds of meters deep on one side and runs steeply downhill on the other side, as if a tectonic plate had ruptured there. If you are brave, you can hike directly to the edge of the cliffs and from there you can have a look at the Geisleralm far away in the valley. Once back at the bottom, the B-MC I takes you comfortably over the winding roads to the parking lot at the foot of the Alm.
After a steep ascent on foot, the Alm is reached after more than an hour. Despite going to the gym 5-6 times a week, even the fitness watch is proud of the completed workout. And so, in addition to the wonderful mountain panorama at sunset, you can also enjoy the delicious Kaiserschmarren on the Geisleralm without a guilty conscience.

Despite the public transport strike, the trip by bus to the island is successful, which is unique and exciting every time. Due to its completely different concept with its canals instead of streets, a lot of things work here in their own unique way. Especially in autumn, however, the island is not overrun with tourists, but much more relaxed with very pleasant temperatures, and can be explored in peace. The many cute little houses - some inconspicuous from the outside, but very grand on the inside - and the large churches and monuments are very impressive. It is also worth staying here for several days in order to be able to discover everything.
From the east it goes all the way to the west, to the tranquil fishing villages of the Italian Riviera, the Cinque Terre. With Park4Night (an app that shows most campsites), the site of an older couple of campers is recommended. Since the two elderly owners only speak Italian, they gesture with hands and feet - very warmly. The Cinque Terre are absolutely worth seeing! Due to their ideal location and manageable size (the smallest village, Corniglia, has just 250 inhabitants), all 5 villages can be explored in one day with a day ticket for the train. The colorful houses convey a very Italian La Dolce Vita feeling.
Even if Pisa should not be missed on a trip to Italy and is an absolute must for every tourist, the city - apart from this one sight - is a small disappointment. The city itself looks a bit run down and leaves such a sobering picture that even the coffee - in Italy this is usually extremely cheap and delicious - has to serve a fast food chain. But you should definitely visit Pisa, because the very beautiful national park (Parco Regionale Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli), which unfortunately is hardly mentioned anywhere, is worth the journey. The avenue of pine trees stretches for 5 km and ends at a beautiful sandy beach by the sea.

Two full days remained for Rome towards the end of the trip. Since Rome contains a lot of history, you need time to see the sights. Above all, the Colosseum and the Roman Forum are particularly impressive here, which are still well preserved after thousands of years. If you can only get a ticket without a guide, you should simply join a group of German speakers to learn about the historical events. Rome is particularly worthwhile for people who are interested in history and history.
He was a loyal companion to us throughout the journey. The briefing on topics such as gray water, gas and Co. at the beginning were absolutely helpful for this. Even as completely inexperienced people when it comes to traveling with a camper, everything was easy to handle and was a great experience for us! The vehicle itself is very easy to drive, especially thanks to cruise control and ACC, even in Italy. In particular, features such as CarPlay on board also make it very easy to design the route on the computer and then transfer it to the cell phone via Google Maps and set off. Thanks to its incredibly large storage space, there would even be enough space for up to four people.
You can experience stories like these with any HYMER.
In our model overview you are guaranteed to find a motorhome or a camper van that also goes with your travel plans.
